Jean Delville (1867-1953) was a Belgian Symbolist painter, and one of the key figures in the Symbolist Movement. He was deeply involved in various occultist activities, and wrote widely on both art and on esoteric philosophies.
Jean Delville, Dante Drinking the Waters of the Lethe, 1919

His interest in occultist activities transpires into the work. His Medusa is haunting.
