Robert Bateman (1842-1922) is a rather shadowy figure in late 19th century British art. He was a follower of Burne-Jones but was so completely forgotten that the painting usually regarded as his finest (The Pool of Bethesda) was not even recognised as being his work until 1965.
Robert Bateman, The Pool of Bethesda, 1876-7
Robert Bateman, The Dead Knight, 1870
Robert Bateman, Three Women Plucking Mandrakes, 1870
